Alexandra is an Admitted Attorney and Notary in South Africa, Legal Counsel and Senior Advisor to several international Private Equity Funds and companies. Business and Investment Executive, Entrepreneur and Board and Governance Leader with 20 years’ Africa experience providing bespoke legal and investment solutions to multiple organizations.

She has worked in Frontier and Emerging Markets including South Africa, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia and Mauritius; as well as for with companies based in developed markets e.g.  USA, UK, Europe, Far East and LatAm doing business or trading with African companies.

Ms Burger specialized in several disciplines: with a proven track record in transactional legal work, trust and company structures for private and commercial clients, financial product development, cross border structuring, stakeholder management characterised by capital raising and alternative financing solutions and superior client facing engagement. She displays clear business strategy skills with the unique ability to work with stakeholders in the design and implementation of legal, business, client, compliance & governance, investment, and P&L strategies as well as the ability to execute through people.

She specialised in international fund structuring, legal advisory and transactional services in private equity including acquisitions and exits, SME investments, business continuity, distressed portfolios and companies, corporate restructuring, payments restructuring, exits and winding down. She has a particular interest in governance of investment funds and companies including compliance and legal forensics analysis, as well as enjoying working on ESG and impact investment projects.

In technology venture capital and start-ups, her work has involved capital raising, corporate structure development, the provision of general commercial legal services (including IP protection and licensing), developing legal processes and company secretarial items.

  • Legal advisory and drafting in the Asset Management, Private Equity industry including funds, listings and M& A transactions including drafting legal documents, listing particulars, business plans and marketing presentations.
  • Developing international corporate structures.
